The Nutcracker, the classical ballet in two-acts, will be staged by the country's premier ballet company, the Philippine Ballet Theatre. It will be performed this coming November 17 & 18, 2018 at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater).
The Nutcracker was already performed and seen by many people across the globe. It is also considered as one of "the most popular and most often staged ballet in the world".
The Nutcracker is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's 1816 fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It tells the story of a little girl who goes to the Land of Sweets on Christmas Eve.
The Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT) was founded 1986 during the aftermath of the EDSA Revolution. The company was formed as a response to the clamor to support ballet artists and their respective companies that felt left out by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) during the Marcos regime. The CCP Dance Company was the sole company that received support during the Marcos era.
