Last Saturday, April 22, 17 goddesses stepped down from above to light the night with fiery dance numbers. The ladies showcased the different faces of Bellydance, how it could be fusioned with other dancing styles and techniques as well.
Solo acts from the group's choreographers demonstrated balance and flexibility as the foundations to mastering the art of bellydance. Added props such as cane and bolo added themes such as broadway and tribal feel.
Bellydance isn't just about being sweet and sexy. One can explore oneself more just like any other dance. This amazon-inspired dance number proved that dancers must also know how to act.
One of the unique acts that these goddesses must be noted for is the marionette theatre inspired by the marionette dolls. This dance piece is a new and refreshing way to show the isolation that advanced bellydancers can do due to all the trainings they've been through. Yet again, another proof that dancers must be actors as well!
As their dance concert comes to a close, GOB invited some of the audience on stage as they teach the basics of bellydance. The women invited on stage, though shy at first gave their all as the spotlight is on them to shine with the goddesses.
Concluding the night, the 17 ladies danced to their finale with all smiles to the audience. Hard Rock Cafe was filled with both avid fans of the group and nationalistic people as they show their support for the group's competition as they represent the Philippines in South Korea next month.
The Goddesses of Bellydance will be representing the Philippines in the World Bellydance Convention in South Korea from May 20-25, 2012. Good luck to all!
