NJEL DE MESA STREETDANCE CONTEST MECHANICS

I. SCREENING

1. The contest is open category (the competition is open to all dance crews & groups). Each group must be composed of 8-12 members (male, female or combination), ages 14 and above

2. The length of the dance routine should be 4 minutes in length (3 minutes mix of any of the R&B Fusion Hiphop songs of Njel de Mesa + 1 minute mix of any song selection in the genre of the crew performing)

3. Only these dance styles (or combination of these) will be allowed:

i. Straight Streetdance
ii. Jazz Funk
iii. New & Old school Hiphop

4. To register for the Streetdance contest download the REGISTRATION FORM from www.NjeldeMesa.multiply.co m

5. Fill out the form and submit a scanned (.jpeg) copy to ktfi2001@yahoo.com with the subject title: Njel de Mesa’s STREETDANCE Contest Form from (name of your crew)

6. To qualify for the ELIMINATIONS, once your group receives a confirmation email, your group leader must open a Youtube account in behalf of your crew & subscribe to www.youtube.com/NjeldeMesa to signify acceptance to join the internet screening procedure. Your group/crew must then post a video in Youtube.com of your group dancing your 4-minute routine and post it as a video response to Njel de Mesa’s STREETDANCE CONTEST Video Invite (or to this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_ FBpXZS_SI). Only one video response per group will be allowed. For Internet searching purposes, the title of the Video must be: Njel de Mesa presents (name of your group).

7. The TOP 20 group videos with the most number of views or hits will qualify for the Elimination Round (contest updates will be posted at Njel de Mesa FB profile or at www.NjeldeMesa.multiply.co m). There will be a special award to be given to the Number 1 crew with the most number of hits.

8. The exact deadline of posting and viewing the videos will be announced at www.facebook.com/NjeldeMes a or www.NjeldeMesa.multiply.co m

9. Changes in the roster of members of the crew will be allowed throughout the competition provided that you submit a formal letter to Yvonne de Mesa (Production Manager) & BGirl Yumei (Crew Coordinator) stating the reason for the change to the organizers.

II. ELIMINATIONS

1. Only Dance groups who are in the TOP 20 Most Viewed videos will be eligible to compete at the Elimination Round

2. The dance groups will be assigned numbers for the competition through the drawing of lots for the sequence of performances. A 1-minute performed intro (ala Showtime) will be required. The dance crew should assign an offstage group (minimum of 4, maximum of 8 members) to introduce them while they pre-set themselves onstage. Only DJing, Hosting, Rap, Declamation, or Speech Choir styles will be allowed.

3. A special ERS (Environmental Recycling System) award will be given to the group who best introduces the crew & answers the question: “What simple ways can we do to save our planet?”

4. Groups may wear any costume/attire provided that costumes are decent and secured (any crew wearing costumes with beads will be disallowed to participate the contest). Putting logos of Njel de Mesa on the costumes are not required but is acceptable.

5. The Criteria for Judging will be as follows:

i. Choreography & Style 35%
ii. Concept & Execution 25%
iii. Costume 20%
iv. Audience Appeal 10%
v. Remixing of the tracks 5%
vi. Group’s Introduction 5%

6. Only the Top Ten groups will qualify to compete for the Finals.

7. The Eliminations will be held at the SM Supermalls (TBA which one)

8. All music for the Elimination round must be recorded in AUDIO CD format (1 Music : 1 CD)- NO Casette tapes, iPod, mp3, live band, or musicians will be allowed. Please test your music before the event.

III. GRAND FINALS

1. Only the Top 10 group from elimination round can compete for the Finals (Schedule TBA). A new set of Rules and Regulations will be furnished to the finalists.

2. On the Grand Finals- there will be a different set of criteria and judging panel (comprised of dance teachers and masters). The winners will receive the following:

a. Third Prize Php10,000 (plus trophy)

b. Second Prize Php 15,000 (plus trophy)

c. First Prize Php 25,000 (plus trophy)

& a chance to join Njel de Mesa’s concert tours)
