Last May 28, 2011, all kpop aficionados headed to CAP Auditorium to witness the challenge bestowed by Dance Pinoy to all cover groups…the Kpop Challenge! More than 20 groups battled it out to be the first Kpop Challenge Grand Champion. Together with OBRA Inc., Dance Pinoy staged this momentous event which marks its second year in the dance industry with the support of the Embassy of South Korea in the Philippines. Kpop merchandisers such as Shearts Shop, Blue Sapphire Shop, Omo Kpop Haven, Fan Shoppe, Fan Girls Dream Shop and Fuben Shop exhibited their items which are of rare finds.
Uniquely after the invocation, the program continued on with both the Philippine National Anthem then the South Korean Anthem. Distinguished guest Councillor Seong Un Hwang lead the opening remarks promoting the Korean culture and Korean Culture Center in the Philippines. With special performances from Christian Sekhahan and Butta-Flava Entertainment, the audience raved and anticipated the fate of all participants.
All groups underwent the scrutiny of our three notable judges, Christian Sekhanan of eSCentric crew, Cesar Bautista of Kalibre Records International and Hon. Seong Un Hwang. Finally, the five finalists were announced to be H3at, BEASTcuits, G$Motion, Off Limits and 5ingko. The anticipation heats up as the announcement of the finalists in order of their ranking gets closer and closer to pronouncing the champion. Then it was down to Off Limits Crew and H3at. The two groups braced themselves for the most awaited revelation. At last, H3at was hailed to be the first Dance Pinoy Kpop Challenge grand champion!
