Iba ang P-POP, sariling atin!

P-Pop will explode with Summer’s heat!

The evening bursted with powerful vocals backed by high-energy dances. The audience grooved to the beat of  hit singles Dance With Me, Crazy Crazy, You’re So Hot, Sige Sayaw and fall in love with the  romantic sound of Kapag Tumibok  ang Puso and I Love You Girl.

The boy group XLR8 is composed of the teenaged group of Kiko, Aki, Caleb, twins MM and MJ, Arkin, AJ and Carlo.  They sang and dance exceptionally. The group’s name combines the words `cxcel’ and `accelerate’. The guys’ debut album under Viva Music Group showcases their young, modern and upbeat sound.

Pop-Girls, on the other hand, is made up of five teenaged girls: Rose, Schai, Nadine, Joanna and Angellie.  Their self-titled album is produced by Christian de Walden and Marcus Davis, with local producer Civ Fontanilla. Their sound is youthful, sweet, light, infectious and catchy. One can easily sing along to their uncomplicated lyrics.

RPM (Real Pinoy Music), Viva Records’ newest P-Pop group performed songs which connote optimism.  It is made up of Carl Trazo, Chris Salcedo, Pio Balbuena, Vince Yap and Anna Luna, Samantha Page and Yanna Garcia.

Pop Girls, RPM, and XLR8 team up for P-Pop Explosion concert at the Aliw Theater on April 1

Clad in white tops and jeans that afternoon, the four teenage girls Rose, Schai, Nadine, Joanna, and Angellie–more popularly known as the Pop Girls–greeted members of the press yesterday, March 8, at The Steakhouse, Timog Avenue, Quezon City.

Joining them that afternoon was the co-ed group of RPM (Real Pinoy Music), whose attire looked more loud and edgy compared to the four sweet-looking girls. The group is composed of Carl Trazo, Chris Salcedo, Pio Balbuena, Vince Yap, Anna Luna, Sam Page, and Yanna Garcia.

EDGE OVER OTHER GROUPS. So what do they have to be considered a cut above the rest?

"We are young, we are sexy, and fresh," says Angellie of Pop Girls. The other girls heartily agreed.

Schai added, "Mas naa-attract namin yung mga kids ngayon, little girls. Sila, iba yung market nila."

For their part, the members of the RPM focused on their desire to  offer variety to listeners.

"May rapping po, sing and dance din po kami tapos yung dancing po namin, we are taking it to the next level," Yanna said.

With a dramatic pause, she exclaimed, "May mga lumilipad po sa amin!"–referring to the agile stunts of Chris Salcedo.

Pio added that being a co-ed group has its advantages. "Mas flexible lang po yung music na puwede namin ihandog sa mga tao kasi puwedeng duet, puwedeng all girls, puwedeng all boys lang," he said.

For both groups, the members auditioned individually before they were grouped together by Viva Records.

"Sobrang okay po kami sa isa't isa. Masaya kami lagi na magkasama," says Carl of RPM.

The Pop Girls also felt the same way about each other. They also said that they look up to other all-female girl groups who came before them to serve as their inspiration.

"Nai-inspire din kami sa kanila. Kasi makikita natin sa energy nila na bigay na bigay sila sa mga steps, so pag nakikita namin silang ganun mag-perform, parang naii-inspire kami na kung kaya nila, siyempre, mas kaya din namin!" said Rose of the Pop Girls confidently.

Even though both groups are still trying to penetrate the music scene, part of their plan is to try out acting as well.

"Siyempre po, darating din naman po yung time na yun na gusto rin namin maging artista. Bukod sa pagsayaw at sa pagkanta, gusto din namin na marunong din kami at kaya din naming umarte, multi- talented," revealed Schai of the Pop Girls.

P-Pop Explosion is presented by MyPhone and Mang Inasal in cooperation with Channel V and GMA 7. It is also brought to you by Pinoy (Your OPM Music Authority) and produced by Viva Concerts and Events.
