Charice’s 'Pyramid' tops Billboard Dance Hit chart

Filipino singer Charice scores her first number one hit in the Billboard charts this week with "Pyramid," the promotional single from her international debut album, "Charice."

"Pyramid" tops the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart by booting out Rihanna’s “Rude Boy.”

This is the second time a Filipina singer charted in the US Billboard Dance chart. The first time was in the '90s when "Do You Miss Me" by San Francisco-based Jocelyn Enriquez reached as high as No. 8.

The Dance/Club Play charts tracks down the hottest hip hop, dance and club tinged pop songs in the US.

Charice broke into the US pop music scene with the help of her TV appearances on the Ellen Degeneres and Oprah Winfrey shows. Her megawatt performances in these shows, coupled with the viral promotion her Youtube clips generated, led to her signing up with an US based record label.

Charice is also admired by the likes of hit-maker David Foster, Josh Groban and "Idol" finalist David Archuleta. Charice’s self-titled international debut album was released in the US yesterday, May 11. "Charice" was launched on the "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

With “Pyramid” topping the dance charts, the main charts at Billboard, namely the Hot 100 singles chart and 200 album chart could be next for Charice.
