The Skechers Streetdance Battle have successfully set the benchmark on dance competitions that by its fifth installment, it is undeniably the SuperBowl of the Philippine hip-hop dance scene. To officially proclaim the start of this year's dance battle, the Skechers Streetdance Battle Kick-Off Party was held last Sept.19, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
The event was much-attended by hip-hop aficionados from all over, especially students from different campuses who proudly cheered for their respective schools as host DJ Mo Twister announced and welcomed the close to 100 representative battling dance crews.
Exciting highlight performances of the event included a number from the previous year's college champs, DLSU's La Salle Dance Company - Street, as well as a special collaborative dance number from highly talented dance crews Pinoy Funk'in Style, Unschooled, Legit Status and GrooveJackz.
Also featured was a Skechers dance fashion show where the best and latest offerings from the global footwear brand were showcased. The models paraded and danced in Limited Edition Skechers Streetdance Battle 5 graphic tees and in eye-ctaching hot new collections like PUNK ROSE by Skechers and SHAPE-UPS from the Skechers Fitness Group.
The crowd was further hyped-up by a spectacular dance showdown. In a 30-second freestyle exhibition, each representative dancers from the competing crews tried to give the audience a taste of the breathtaking stunts and moves in store for everyone on the upcoming elimination and final performances.
The showdown continued well into the evening. The Music Hall turned into a dance battlefield as spectators were treated for a spontaneous dance showdown between dancers and crews, as the party concluded with a lively performance from Pedicab and a firework display.
