Talapak

The Talapak is an occupational dance of the Manobo people of southern Bukidnon. The talapak is an example of their types of dances, which are influenced by the nearby Matig Salug, and mostly portray everyday activities. The dance shows how the talapak, a tool with a point on one end and a bamboo clapper on the other, is used when sowing rice seeds. The bamboo clapper makes a sound when the pointed end is poked into the ground to make a hole. The noise is intended to both scare off birds that might eat the newly sown seeds and to attract the attention of the spirits of the field.
