Rigodon Lawiswis

The Eastern Visayan version of the favorite quadrille, the Rigodon. The Rigodon is a French social dance that found its way to the Philippines through Spain. This dance is usually performed during social gatherings like town fiestas and installations of newly elected public officials in Leyte and Samar. The dancers are usually the prominent, the wealthy and the powerful personalities of the town.

Some figures found in this version are also found in the Rigodon versions of other places in the country like the Saludo, Cambio Pareja and the Cadena. The melody for this dance is a very familiar tune but the tempo changes from a 2/4 time to a ¾ time.
