Pandamggo

The Pandamggo is a dance performed by an ethnic group called the Talaingods, who are believed to have originated from the Manobos. Living near Davao del Sur, they maintain their animistic tradition. The pandamggo presents the story of the child of a virgin-mother (possibly a Catholic influence). The dance begins with the virgin-mother who dreamed she was going to have a child. The dance shows the different stages of the life of this child, a girl named Liboangan, from birth to maidenhood. Once grown, Liboangan has to deal with competing suitors, one of which is favored by her mother. A clash between these two suitors ultimately causes them both to die.
