Palakis

The Palakis is a courtship dance that originated in Western Bontoc that is most often performed during weddings and festivals, especially the begnas, a community celebration of planting and of harvest. The male and female dancers each carry a square-meter piece of brightly colored cloth that they hold and shake while making their flirtatious movements. They are accompanied by the beating of 4 gongs.
