Lumba

Lumba literally means ‘decoration’ or ‘display’. During family or community celebrations, colorful buntings called pandala are used. These buntings have different designs, forms and sizes , each symbolizing a particular social status in the family or a clan.

In this dance, the dancers are not the focal point but the buntings and the wind. Hence , when the dancers move briskly, the wind makes the bunting wave. In a nutshell, plausible wind, vigorous beatings of the music and varying movements of the dancers make this dance an all out show of joy and merriment. Every movement the dancer does is imaginatively the movement of the wind in order to make the buntings fly and display its array of colors and symbolism.

This dance is usually performed during festivals, wedding celebrations, royal installations and other celebrations which denote happy ending. Taken into the context of urbanization the dance can symbolize wealth and power.
