La Jota Paloana

La Jota Paloana is among the many Filipinized version of the Spanish Jota. The Jota was a favorite among the people of Palo in Leyte, hence the name. To the old Jota dancers of Palo, the dance was called Jota Navarra. Tales from these old folks states that the dance was taught to older folks by some Spanish natives from Navarra region in Spain.

The lively 3/4 music is quite similar to other Eastern Visayan Jotas like the La Jota Samareña of Catbalogan, Samar and the Jota Calbigana of Calbiga, Samar. The same "basic" jota melody is used in the Jota Han Kalipay and the Jota Bicolana.
