Dances from faraway lands found its way to the Philippines as a result of colonization. Newly introduced dances by foreigners were readily and easily integrated to the peoples’ repertoire of dances. Among the all-time favorite to the folks is the escotis (as it is called in the Visayas) or chotis (as called by the Ilocanos, Ibanags and Tagalogs) or the shotis (as called by the Bikolanos).
