Escala

Escala was introduced by the Visayan inhabitants of Misamis Occidental. This is usually danced during wedding processions, with relatives dancing their hearts out from the church to the venue for the celebrations. The newlywed couple dance it after the wedding dinner according to custom. The sponsors of the couple are the first to dance and the couple follows.

The Escala is still performed in The Visayan area particularly in Negros Oriental province. Dauin town takes pride of their very rich wedding rituals and tradition which include the wedding dance Escala. Most probably, Visayan settlers coming from this town brought the Escala to Misamis, where F.R. Aquino found the popular version in one of her research trips.
