Bangibang

The Bangibang, a Cordilleran funeral dance is performed by the Ifugao community when one of their members suffers a violent death. Men and women wear the red leaves of the dongla plant, which is symbolic of war. On the way to the home of the deceased, the men shake their spears and shields as they hop or jog and some of them strike bangibang (resonant sticks). Upon reaching the house, they cry out, “Ha-ha-gui-yoo.” They surround the deceased, urging him to take his revenge, some even striking him.
