The WiFi Body Independent Contemporary Dance Festival is a gathering of contemporary dance artists, a showcase for new and innovative contemporary dance works and a magnet for collaborations with artists of other disciplines with contemporary dance. A project of the Contemporary Dance Network Philippines in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, this festival has grown since its inception in 2006, to involve two hundred thirty-two (232) dance artists in twenty (20) dance organizations, with an average of fifty (50) choreographers with 52 contemporary dance piece premieres a year. WiFi Body Festival is, indeed, the pre-eminent contemporary dance event in the Philippines today.

Dynamic, innovative but pushing together for a common love for dance, this is the body of
contemporary dance in the Philippines.

WiFi Body 5 explores the theme "Body and Memory." Is not memory triggered by some imprint on the body, some lodged experience in the body, springing forth as memory?

It is when the body remembers, that one proceeds to create. And when the body remembers, there is Dance.

EXPERIMENT. REMEMBER. CREATE.
Join us for WiFi Body 5!

I’m writing to you about a cause that’s important to all of us and a cause that I know you will want to support. We want you to join us in this cause, and together we MAKE HISTORY. Let this be the divine moment of ONENESS to all of us who love and respect Michael Jackson.

MICHAEL JACKSON FLASH MOB PHILIPPINES is a voluntary movement established to organize a series of MICHAEL JACKSON’S THEMATIC FLASH MOB event/s with a CAUSE to honor the contributions and the greatness Michael Jackson - keeping his visions of helping others alive. Sincerely believing in the maxim “Music can change the world and make it a better place” focusing on Michael Jackson’s music as a symbol of an alternative, and as a vital source of power for the enlightenment of people’s awareness to have common concerns towards humanity and environment to provide FUN, L.O.V.E., UNITY and AWARENESS, expressed through spontaneous acts of dance and fun to lift up spirits to transform for positive change among Filipinos hence, the development of better citizens. We are committed to spreading messages of hope, love and healing.

This is not a simple mirror effect to cheat people. If MJFM PHILIPPINES exists, it was all because of L.O.V.E. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world come together and form a "Michael Nation". We work to ensure that the King of Pop will never be forgotten, but more popular and revered than ever. We want people to remember him, to sing and dance the messages of Michael Jackson. We just want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and MAKE THAT CHANGE, that Michael Jackson flash mobbing isn’t a one-time event and not only just for FUN but His is with a CAUSE. Michael inspired so many people - millions of people. Let his inspiration and acts of kindness shine on.

Our movement is putting up a flash mob dance events on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 5:00 pm, Alimall and 6:00 pm, Araneta Coliseum (green gate) fronting Shopwise to commemorate and to participate to Michael Jackson’s first death anniversary being held worldwide. There will be approximately 200 participants. The event brings the people the opportunity to dance, enjoy the benefits and the impact of Michael Jackson music to our lives! The event showcases “The L.O.V.E. for JUSTICE” flash mob dance to Michael Jackson’s “The Drill”, ‘They Don’t Care About Us’. The song has become the musical basis on how we symbolically unite our struggles for Justice for Michael Jackson. The flash mobbers will do it the peaceful, respectful way of protest through dancing. It’s a 5-minute choreographed dance that will break out spontaneously (at least to onlookers), stunned the crowd, and as quickly as they came together, will disperse, leaving those who watch both amazed and impressed. As the flash mobbers dispersed, a 5-minute “HEAL THE WORLD” song followed while other participants releasing a bunch of red balloons with notes and messages to participate in a global event for Michael Jackson. The “The L.O.V.E. for JUSTICE” flash mob is just one more way for us to spread not hatred nor anger but L.O.V.E. of Michael Jackson.

The flash mob event will be documented, filmed to upload in You Tube and aired in different television news program.

It would be greatly appreciated if you join us and get involve. I wish to reiterate our appreciation of your presence and I trust that you will find MICHAEL JACKSON deserving of your support. Your presence will be not only an investment in the spirit of Michael Jackson’s legacy, but in all the lives Michael Jackson touched.

    We say this with L.O.V.E.

    See you on Wednesday!

In 1998, several Filipino dance teachers tried their luck in Australia in search for training and exposure. They experienced the triumph of winning various Australian National Amateur Grade Titles under the training of Mr. Stanley Alexander.  Wanting to bring dance sport to the Philippine masses, discussions were made to form an association in the Philippines to bring high quality dance education and to provide more affordable dance teacher certification through examination. The name Philippine Professional Dance Sport Association has been put together through the help of former First Lady Imelda Marcos who says, “it needs to include the word Philippine to show the organization is national, and include the word Professional to show that the organization is in contrast to the other”.

    Its Vision and Mission are:
Placing the Philippines on the World Stage of Dance & Dance Sport by producing World Class
Teachers, Coaches, Adjudicators, Scrutineers & Competitors of Dance & Dance Sport & to eventually become the Peak Body for all Dance & Dance Sport Education in the Philippines.
Continuously provide theoretic, strategic & practical training for teachers, coaches,
adjudicators, scrutineers & competitors through regular seminars, workshops & courses through Dance Sport Clubs, Academies, Studios, Schools, Colleges, Universities, etc. & to make this training affordable & to be available to the masses.

PPDSA produced the first Filipino professional competitors (from December 1999) and are the only local group yet to produce Filipino Professional Champions abroad, successful in several countries winning International Professional Championships from March 2000 through to and including March 2010 with more successes to come.

PPDSA are the only local organization to send licensed professional dance teachers abroad for full time employment in Australia, UK, USA, Europe and Asia, and have been recognized with an award “Most Outstanding Dance School”.

PPDSA were endorsed in 2004 by the Department of Education, DepEd for National Training & Licensing Dance Sport Coaches/Trainors and were sought by DepEd to lead the March 13-14, 2006 DepEd National Training & Licensing of Dance Sport Trainors at Baguio Teachers camp for the purpose of dance sport inclusion to the Palarong Pambansa. PPDSA continued follow on programs as well as assisting develop the Palarong Pambansa Dance Sport Syllabus.

DepEd confirmed that PPDSA will assist manage the April 9, 2010 Palarong Pambansa Dance Sport Demonstration Tournament in Tarlac City, Region III. DepEd also endorsed PPDSA to conduct a Free Dance Sports Seminar April 8-9, 2010 at Tarlac as a lead in to the Palarong Pambansa Dance Sports Demonstration. PPDSA membership was also available. No fee was charged to any participant in the training April 8-9 nor was there a participation fee charged to enter the Dance Sport Tournament April 9, 2010. PPDSA and its member’s volunteered FREE services and as well, PPDSA provided prizes for the DepEd April 9 Tournament participants that included 4 x free air tickets abroad to the under 18yrs winners.

However, PPDSA’s appointment in the Palarong Pambansa by DepEd has been in question by Mr. Willy Rodriguez. Because of this, many issues against its chairman, Stanley Alexander and other organizations/ individuals have been put out in the open.

First is his nationality. Mr. Rodriguez questions Stanley being on tourist visa as he is involved in affairs in our country. Stanley answered this issue by saying he is retired, married with children to a Filipina, and that as chairman of various international and local non stock, non - profit dance organizations, he regularly travels to different countries assisting in dance sport promotion, education and its development. While in Philippines Mr. Alexander occasionally assists in scholar training projects of his beloved PPDSA. As for his being an Honorary Ambassador At Large of Guam, this title was presented out of gratitude for his charitable endeavors relating to dance sport, its performance, competition and education in this US territory.

Stanley admitted that PPDSA went against May 2003 Blackpool winners Edna Ledesma and John Co as they had both been presented by the Professional Dance Teachers Association, PDTA at the DSCP National Championships in late 2002 as Philippine Professionals, members of the PDTA including as a PDTA board member, professional licensed dance teachers (examined and licensed Oct 2002 with NATD), regular professional TV and cabaret performers, adjudicators, earning their living from the profession yet joined in a category far lower than their qualifications to allegedly gain undue credits.
The protest was more in consideration that the organization Edna Ledesma and John Co represented (PDTA) was allegedly restricting and preventing other Filipino professionals from plying their profession with equality; and where this led to several victimized Filipino professionals (non PDTA members) being banned from entering professional events abroad.

This PPDSA action against Edna Ledesma and John Co was not so much a personal attack against the pair, rather against the organization (PDTA) that they were representing, led by a chairman professing to be an elite WDC International adjudicator one day and then a lowly senior amateur competitor another; which can be likened to a doctor leading the Philippine Medical Board one day and then assuming duties as a nurse’s orderly the next, a laughable situation by most people’s standards.
PPDSA and its affiliated organizations Austral-Asian Arts Theater Dance (AATD) Inc., World Casino Dance Federation (WCDF) Inc., National Dance League (NDL) Inc., are all member organizations of the peak Philippines professional body, the National Dance Teachers Council (NDTC) Inc, which is accredited by Philippines Games and Amusement Board (GAB) that regulates and supervises the profession of dance sport; and where these before mentioned SEC registered and incorporated organizations have only ever operated in a completely legal and professional manner. NDTC encompasses most professional dance sport organizations within the Philippines (eight professional groups from the nine locally operating)

Certain claims of Mr. Willy Rodriguez that Stanley Alexander had referred or suggested demeaning statements that may be insulting towards Filipino/s is just totally not true and had never ever been uttered.

All documents issued by or relating directly to Stanley Alexander, PPDSA, AATD, NDL, WCDF &/or the NDTC placed without permission at Face Book and/or other internet sites by Mr. Rodriguez are legal documents, yet placed by Mr. Rodriguez with an attached insinuation to be otherwise.
These Philippine dance sport associations and various individual personalities including Stanley that have been recently maligned through these and other issues released on Face Book and/or other internet sites are now working in consultation with attorneys towards a lawsuit against the malicious libelous allegations among other matters of Mr. Rodriguez and his accomplices.

CDNP is the group behind the recent "Moving Dance @ The LRT Dance Express," where more than 20 dancers staged contemporary dance pieces at the stations and inside the trains of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 2 for International Dance Day.

Festival director Myra Beltran says, "Wifibody is distinguished by its innovative use of traditional spaces and its exploration of non-traditional spaces."  After opening in Makati City, the festival continues at Dance Forum Space in Quezon City and concludes at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Pasay City.

"Wifibody aims to engage the public by allowing everyone to access contemporary dance," she adds.  As part of this year's theme, "Body and Memory," there will be a photo exhibit with video portraits featuring ten choreographers who have been influential in the crafting and direction of the festival.

"It is when the body remembers that one proceeds to create.  When the body remembers, there is dance," notes Beltran.  "This festival allows those involved in contemporary dance to 'remember' how we grew, how we got to where we are, and trace where we are going."

In IndepenDance, one of the major shows featuring new choreographic work, participating groups include Ava Maureen Villanueva and Rhosam Prudenciado Jr. of Airdance, Gerardo Francisco of Ballet Manila, Herbert Alvarez of U.P. Dance Company, and Christine Crame of Seven Contemporary Dance Company.

As part of the festival's objectives to encourage new talent, the New Choreographers Competition allows up-and-coming regional choreographers and dancers who have not yet created any major full-length work to premier solos or duets.

Emerging Talent Showcase gives performing opportunities to young talents from various independent groups and school-based groups.  The festival also features Dance-on-Site, performances choreographed specifically for unusual venues, such as the driveway in front of the CCP Main Theater lobby.

The Uncensored Bodies Dance Video Competition will showcase entries that use dance in film or films created specifically for dance.  Entries will be posted on Youtube.com and online voting will be conducted.

Wifibody 5 runs on June 25-27 at Greenbelt Ayala Malls, June 26-27 at Dance Forum Space and culminates at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on July 2-4, 2010.  Dance Forum Space is at 36e West Avenue, West Triangle, Quezon City. The biggest battleground for dance supremacy in the country is back for the fourth straight year.

Groove Philippines, which produced world class dance crews Xtatic, Equizyth and Amplified Hip Hop, will hit the road starting this month in search for country’s representative in the World Supremacy Battle grounds (WSB) in Melbourne Austalia slated in November this year.

Xtatic, which hails from Cagayan de Oro won the inaugural competition in 2007 then went on to win the WSB championship.  Equizyth from General Santos City, meanwhile, failed to defend the country’s WSB title as it ended up as runner up the following year.  Baguio City’s Amplified Hip Hop, which graced the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) opening ceremonies in their current Fiesta Conference, returned the crown to the country last year.

“Groove Philippines 2010 promises to be bigger and better than our first three seasons as we expanded the qualifying stages to six.  With the support of SM Supermalls, we’re excited to help the youth fulfill their dreams,” Hoopdreamz Phil. Operations Manager Peeya delos Reyes said.

The battle for dance supremacy begins on June 20 at SM Pampanga, July 3 at SM Lucena, July 10 at SM Cebu, July 11 at SM Iloilo, July 17 at SM Cagayan de Oro, July 24 at SM Davao and the National Finals on August 14 at SM Mall of Asia.

Aside from the country’s biggest mall chain, Groove Philippines 2010 is also being supported by SM Supermalls, SM Mall of Asia, Air Philippines, STI, Viva Prime Channel, Business Mirror, Max Fm, Magic 89.9, Cebu Daily News, Gen Studios, Dance for Life and DancePinoy.com

Enjoy an evening full of music, dance, drinks and fun, in what the Spanish call a juerga or flamenco party. You are invited to an event series entitled Noches de Sevillanas (or Sevillanas Nights) on June 2, 2010, Wednesday at 8:00pm. Come enjoy as we introduce the Sevillanas, a popular Spanish folk dance to the Manila community. There will be live music with a flamenco guitarist, Spanish tapas, sangria, and beer in abundance where you can just dance your heart out. Dance Assistants will also be available to assist or partner with you.

For those who have never danced the popular Spanish folk dance, Sevillanas – no worries! Clara Ramona will be teaching the basics, along with the playful Rumba Flamenca rhythm, during a FREE Introductory Lesson at 8:30pm.

Sevillanas is a fun and exciting Spanish folk dance that enlivens any party and is essential in the repertoire of any flamenco dancer and for all who just love the art of flamenco. Sevillanas are danced in partners by children, teenagers and adults at nightclubs, parties, ferias, weddings, and many other social events in Spain, but most famously at the annual Feria de Abril in Sevilla.

Flamenco attire is encouraged (but not required) and will add to the ambience of our tablao flamenco for the evening. Party Entrance Fee is only Php 250, inclusive of one drink.
